niacinamide
The quiet powerhouse of skincare

NI-A-WHAT?
Some skin care ingredients just get all the credit, accolades, praises and the media attention! Most of you are familiar with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, Retinol, Ceramides, Glycolic Acid etc....but, when we say "Niacinamide" we get quizzical stares as people repeat back "Ni-a-what?" Let's delve into why we absolutely love this Unsung Hero of the skin care world....
Niacinamide is actually Vitamin B3! It's the lesser known vitamin when we say the "A, B, C's" of skincare. Most of you know of Vitamin A (Retinol and its variants), other Vitamin B's (Panthenol, Biotin) and of course, Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid and its variants). Niacinamide, B3? It's not sexy. It's a relatively inexpensive ingredient. It's been around for years. It's a quiet Powerhouse and Workhorse in skin care. But, it's well deserving of LOUD accolades! The body of research on Niacinamide is vast, deep and conclusive. And scientists keep finding even more reasons we should incorporate it into skin care preparations.

So what does Niacinamide do for the skin?
A better question is what DOESN'T Niacinamide do? The skin types it's good for range from the troubled acne/breakout prone skin all the way to aging, fragile, mature skin, and everything in-between. Most skin types tolerate Niacinamide very well. There isn't any 'downtime' or period of acclimating to Niacinamide. Gentle and effective! We certainly love that!
What does Niacinamide DO? It does SO much that we decided to just make a bullet point list. Here goes:
- Pores! Unclogs and visibly improves the appearance of large pores
- Improves the skin's barrier against environmental damage (pollution and UV); and it actually helps repair past damage cause by the environment
- Improves Hydration
- Helps other ingredients work their magic better!
- Improves skin tone and uneven skin (hyperpigmentation)
- Improves fine lines and wrinkles
- Brightens dulled skin
- fights against moisture loss and encourages the natural production of ceramides
Our love of Niacinamide is not a fling; but rather a long-term love affair which we see no reason to ever end! At Bombi, we use Niacinamide at an effective 5% concentration.
